​S.E. Shires Competitions

Eligibility
Youth Competition - pre-college and under 19 years of age on June 20, 2023. Only Youth Camp participants are eligible to compete in the Youth Competition.

Excerpts and S.E. Shires Solo Competition - under 26 years of age on June 20, 2023
 
Rules/Procedure
  • Preliminary round submissions are to be submitted with your competition registration and must include audio and video.
  • Competitions are only open to STS Participant Class and Youth Camp participants. 
  • Semifinal and final rounds of the competitions will happen live at the 2023 STS.  All competitors must submit an STS Participant or Youth Camp application separate from the competition submission(s).
  • Repertoire for the Youth Competition and S.E. Shires Solo Competition should be submitted without piano accompaniment.
  • Recordings must be unedited, but audio gain changes on entire recordings are permitted.
  • Performers can skip over multi-measure rests at their discretion.
  • Excerpt Competitors must record the entire list in the order listed below, all in one take.
  • All recordings must be submitted via a YouTube link.  The YouTube video must be “Unlisted” and comments should be disabled. 
  • The link to your recording will be submitted along with the registration form and payment. See below for dates: 
  • Participants must pay one STS Competition Entry fee for each competition entered via credit card via the registration form.
  • All entrants will receive feedback from the judges.
  • It is permissible to compete in more than one STS competition, but individuals may only win one of the grand prizes.  If they are chosen as the winner in a second competition they will automatically receive second place.
  • Bass and Tenor players will compete head-to-head in each STS competition.
  • Semifinal rounds of the S.E. Shires Solo Competition and Youth Competition will be unaccompanied.  Pianist will be provided for solo competition finalists.  No outside pianists will be allowed.  Each finalist will be allotted two 25-minute rehearsals with the pianist.
 
Important Dates​
  • The STS will begin notifying participants who advance to the semi-final rounds beginning on March 15th.
  • Final recording submission deadline to be considered for the competitions is March 15th.
