Audition Information

Picture
All candidates for the Participant, Performer, and Artist classes must fill out the STS application prior to sending the audition recording. No audition recordings will be considered until an application is received.

The 32 Participant spots, 24 Performer spots, and 35 Artist spots will be filled as applicants are accepted, beginning on March 15, 2020. Once the Participant, Performer, and Artist Classes are full, a limited number of alternates will be selected.

Application Fee: $35

Please have your registration complete and audition material submitted before March 15th. We will begin accepting applications on March 15th and most of the spots are usually filled on this date.

Recordings must include:
  • A movement from a standard solo from the trombone repertoire or a complete solo (12 minute maximum). Solo competition repertoire is acceptable, but not required OR
  • Two contrasting etudes and one standard orchestral excerpt

Participants who wish to enter the Orchestral Excerpts Competition Audition:
  • Record the entire list of first round excerpts. No additional solo or etude material is required. The recorded excerpts will serve as your audition for the STS and your entry into the orchestral excerpts competition.
Note: The solo competition first round happens live at the STS. There is no recorded round for the solo competition, so there is no need to submit a recording of the competition solo at any point.

Please email Dr. Palmer if you have any questions about the application/audition process.

Format:
  1. Live - set up an appointment with Dr. Palmer at CSU
  2. mp3 or aac files as email attachments sent to Dr. Palmer (no WAV or AIFF files please!)
